Today I’m finally here to show you my Madam Glam soak-off gel wear test and removal! I have included a review on their Gel Kit as well which is the basic kit you need to get started with gel nails. Let’s take a look!
First up is the gel kit. This is available for $140 (you can save 40% with my code EMILY30 which gets it down to just under $100). Inside the kit you get an LED lamp, 3 gel colours of your choice (or one colour and the required top and base coat as I have in my photo above), foil wraps for removal, nail file and wood stick (the last two were not part of my package so not in the photo). The lamp that is included has a US plug so if you are from outside of the US like me you will need to buy a plug converter, thankfully those are very cheap and easy to find.
I have been extremely impressed with the quality of the Madam Glam gel so in this kit you get great quality. My only complaint is that the lamp is quite small so you can only cure 3-4 fingers at a time. I’ve seen other kits available at a similar price (and similar quality) that have a larger lamp and come with some additional supplies like lint-free wipes and cleanser. I do think it’s a good deal BUT if you are planning on doing nails on other people I would not recommend this particular kit since the lamp is too small for working on clients. It’s however great for on-the-go, all the supplies fit in a very small bag which is perfect if you are traveling somewhere. It’s a lovely kit, but it’s worth taking the time to explore if it’s the right one for your specific needs.
As for my wear test, I applied the shade She’s All That (swatch here) to my right hand, which is rarely seen here on my blog. This hand is often dubbed Cinderella/Cindy hand as she does all the work and gets none of the glory. 🙂 I have to change my polish very often for my blog so I could not fit two weeks of not swatching into my schedule, so my right hand came to the rescue! As you can see, after two weeks the gel was still looking perfect, glossy, no chips or wear whatsoever. The only thing you could see was the growth near the cuticle. Two weeks gives you about 1mm / 2mm worth of growth depending how fast your nails grow. My right hand definitely does all of the work so it’s a great testament to the longevity and toughness of gel polish.
Madam Glam claims you can wear the gel for 2-3 weeks. I would be modest and say if you are wearing the gel on your natural nails that 2 weeks is a good estimate. My mom has been a complete gel polish convert since I started doing her nails with Madam Glam and she gets 14-16 days of wear out of her manicure. After that the growth is visible enough that it’s time for a fresh set.
As promised I also have a removal video to share with you. Please check out my how-to application video if you are interested. Removing soak-off gel is done with the foil removal method which most of us know about for removing glitter polish. Some important steps include removing the shine with a nail file so the acetone gets to soak all the way through the product. After 10-15 minutes of soaking in acetone-based remover you can softly remove any leftover gel without damaging your nails.
Both application and removal take longer than they would for regular polish but you get a minimum of 2 weeks of wear out of it so I think it’s definitely worth it. If you love getting a long wear out of your manicure, gel polish is definitely a great solution.
You can purchase Madam Glam gel polishes through their official website. The colours and top and base gel are available for $19.95 a piece. Don’t forget to use my coupon code, you can save a whopping 30% off with the code EMILY30.
