I had a really horrible nail break last week so I’m sadly forced to take a little break from swatches and nail art. Hopefully not for too long! Since I was working on a new box for my swatchicles this week I figured I’d make an updated blogpost about that in the meantime. I made a post about them last year when I just finished making them which you can find here. I’ve had to make a new box twice now since my stash kept outgrowing them. Hopefully this new one will last me a while, haha!
If you don’t know what swatchicles are, basically they’re fake nail tips (I get mine at Born Pretty Store) on a (popsicle) stick. I use them to catalog my nail polishes and to keep track of my stash. It enables me to quickly find the perfect colour I am looking for, it helps me get inspired and I simply love looking at them. They bring colour to my room and never fail to cheer me up. 😀
My first box had a baroque pattern print, the second box was plain black and a little boring, and my new box has a shiny leopard print wrapper. Love it! I bought this gift wrapping paper at Primark a while back and simply had to have it. I always seem to gravitate toward leopard prints! 🙂
This is how the box looks empty. I grabbed an empty shoebox, resized it a little so it was narrower, glued it back together and added sections using cardboard and a hot glue gun. I calculated that I’d need 20 sections to logically separate my swatchicles by colour. I ended up having a section for: pinks, reds, coral/oranges, yellows, pale/bright greens, dark greens, mint greens, pale/bright blues, medium blues, dark blues, dark purples, light purples, mauves, browns, nudes, white/silvers, black/dark grays, special effect topcoats, fine glitter and chunky glitter. Phew! 😀
And finally some shades up close. Doesn’t this look so bright and cheerful? Even though they’re time consuming to keep track of and make, it’s so worth the effort! I really love my swatchicles. Though I especially love seeing people’s reaction to it. Whenever I have people coming over that want to get their nails done, I present them with my box of swatchicles. “Now choose!”. They usually respond with “eeehmm where do I start?” 😀
How do you keep track of your stash? Do you keep a type of catalog? Do you use swatchicles like me or something else? Let me know in the comments!
