Today I’m super duper excited to introduce Jae, aka The Procrastinating Polishr. If you haven’t heard of her before, you’re in for a real treat. She is a talented blogger from Australia who posts awesome nail art looks and reviews! We bonded over our mutual love for RuPaul’s Drag Race and I am so happy to call her a friend, she is a truly awesome person.
Hello lovely Very Emily fans! I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining you here with a guest post while Emily has a well earned break. I’ve been lucky enough to get to know Emily over the last year through the equally lovely Christine of Serenity Nails and we’ve become great friends 😀 She recently did a phenomenal guest post over on my blog so naturally I had to return the favour!
I’ve created a simple graphic design that is a little of a mish-mash of my style and Emily’s style. I love bold colours and geometric shapes, and Emily loves sweet pastels and is fabulous at incorporating negative space into her nail art.
I started with a regular base coat and once dry taped off the lower third of my nails with masking tape – simply because it was what I had handy. You can use striping tape, vinyls, liquid latex… or throw caution to the wind and freehand that sucker! I’d recommend using a one coater for this step, but a two coater will work with one very thin first coat and a medium second coat. I did two coats of Kester Black ‘Alimony’ – an all time fave – and removed the tape immediately after the second coat on each nail.
I used a long striper brush to do a basic stripe across the tip in Pretty Serious ‘Racy Lingerie’. I love a simple single or double stripe, it’s kind of preppy but modern!
Finally I used Powder Perfect ‘Gilded Beauty’ and a short thin brush to paint on the triangles, overlapping the sweet minty base with the bottom of the triangles. I feel like this step really pulled the look together. The unusual combination of colours is totally my style and the sharp lines seriously do things for me! I finished it off with a quick drying top coat for a nice smooth finish.
I hope you all dig my nail art and would love if you came to say hi over on my blog or other social media! Big thank you to Emily for having me here, I hope you’re loving your break and can’t wait to hear all about it!
Huge thank you Jae for these absolutely stunning nails! I think you totally nailed a fusion of both of our styles. I adore the colour scheme and negative space. Totally adding these to my list of things to recreate! I just LOVE them! Please make sure to head over to Jae’s blog at The Procrastinating Polishr and follow her using the links above!
