Summer holidays

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, summer’s been busy and very hot! My boyfriend’s been here a lot, he passed his exams so we’re enjoying a 3 month holiday together! We had lots of plans for the past few days but nearly all of them fell through, it’s simply been too hot to do anything lately. Though last Tuesday it wasn’t as hot, so we decided to go shopping in Antwerp. I bought tons of dresses and he bought at least six T-shirts cause he had several stolen at the Rock Werchter festival.

While he was at Rock Werchter I went to my sister’s birthday party. This is what I made her, a shoulder bag, a pencil-case and a wallet. Besides the wallet the fabrics are from IKEA, when I saw them I knew she would love them! The wallet is from an old fabric her mum bought for my mum in Africa years ago. We’re half sisters, hence… I really hope she liked them and will enjoy using them.

In Antwerp I bought this stunning lace jacket at H&M, it was a bit expensive at €39,99 but I just fell in love with it.

Ignore the clutter behind me, I’m in Dries’ room and we had to rearrange it completely so we could put two mattresses together, yay for the Simpsons pillowcases!

The black dress I’m wearing in this picture is also from H&M, and because I loved it so much (and because it was so cheap! Just €6,95) I bought it in several of other colours as well. Only the black one and the green zebra print were a size small, the others were a size medium and too loose fitting  so I’m going to take them in a bit.

Last week we also went to the house of his departed grandparents, the house still needs clearing out and cleaning up before it’s being sold. We went alongside his parents to see if there were things we wanted that would be chucked otherwise. I found this gorgeous snake skin clutch, I’m not sure if it’s real or fake, though I’m guessing it’s genuine.

I cut Dries’ hair on Sunday cause it was bothering him, on the back of his head it tends to grow all wonky so I cut it straight, after that I took some passport photos for his new ID!

Note the nails! Will be posting a tutorial on them very soon.

The left one is the one we picked eventually, though the one on the right would have been way more awesome! Oh god, how I love my dorky boyfriend :)

Make-up for men!

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

A while ago I discovered gossmakeupartist on Youtube, an amazing professional make-up artist who makes really great tutorials. I saw his male make-up tutorial a while ago and was really inspired by it, his skills really blew me away. I made my boyfriend watch the video too and he jokingly said that I should try it on him once. I’m one of those people who takes everything seriously (at least I know I do!) so I did it on him today. I have to add, this is the first time EVER I did make-up on a man. I think I did okay for a first time and with the available tools I had.

before

This is the “before”-image. Though I have to add, technically it’s the after image cause I forgot to take a before picture this is after we took off all the make-up, he also shaved by the way.

after

This is the “after”-image. I think it gives him a more defined and masculine look, it also evened out his skintone to blend better with his neck. It may look slightly dramatic in this picture (I think so at least) but it looked very natural in real life. I told my mum I had done make-up on my boyfriend before she saw it, when he came in she kept staring at him before she finally said “If you hadn’t told me I wouldn’t have noticed it.”

He enjoyed having the make-up applied a lot, but I’m sure us girls will understand cause being pampered is great. We had a lot of fun doing this, it doesn’t look 100% perfect but as I said it was my first go. I followed most of the steps gossmakeupartist did besides curling his lashes and covering them with eyeliner (instead of mascara) because he thinks lash curlers look really scary. Boys are such wimps sometimes! :D

And by the way, this is not something we’re going to do regularly, it was just for fun!

Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows

Monday, May 24th, 2010

Have you girls been enjoying the wonderful weather as well? I sure have! Summer is finally here though weather forecasts predict that our sunny spells will be over tomorrow so I’m trying to enjoy it as much as I can while it’s still here. I hope you all had a nice weekend. My mom had a birthday party on Saturday and our family came round. We had the most gorgeous weather so we were very lucky, we planned a garden party so we would have been very sad if we had to do it indoors.

1

Her birthday is actually tomorrow, 25 May, but me and Dries had bought her a gift and we couldn’t wait till then. Dries was only here this weekend so we wanted to give it to her together. The wrapping paper is his fault! :) and sorry mommy I put a picture on my blog with you wearing your old fleece sweater, people won’t mind, I promise!

2

I wouldn’t normally go for gifts like this but she absolutely adores her Kneipp Lavender scented products so this was the perfect gift for her. It included a show gel, body lotion, massage oil, effervescent tablet and a fluffy bathing sponge. :D

3

It wouldn’t be personal if I didn’t make or draw something myself so I drew her this card. Left is the back and right is the front. I used Chinese ink and watercolour.

4

Me and Dries relaxing after dinner, we had a cold buffet and three different desserts. Everyone really loved the food it was really amazing, though my mom wants to keep it simple next year, it required so much work and preparation.

5

Maarten (who is technically my uncle as he’s married to my mum’s sister, though I don’t call him that) took amazing macro images of my eyes for my last post on circle lenses. It’s a lot of fun being a model, though having a bright ringflash blinding your eyes isn’t. :D

6

Dries taking fisheye pictures of me. My mom really loves that fisheye lens and so do I. I wish I had one but it’s very expensive, it’s around €800. I’m very lucky and grateful I can borrow Maarten’s from time to time.

7

This is an actual fisheye image. Me and Dries in the garden behind ours. I have taken lots of my past pictures there, the woods are very inspiring to me and are a great setting for photoshoots. You can see my dad taking a picture of us behind me.

8

This is from my dad’s point of view!  In between the trees you can sort of see our greenhouse and our house.

I enjoyed this weekend very much, sunny weather really brightens up my mood and having family around is always nice.

9

Happy birthday mommy, I love you and I hope you’ve enjoyed this weekend and will have a nice day tomorrow. ♥

Easter Holiday

Monday, April 12th, 2010

My lack of posts this week was due to the fact that I’ve been spending the week at my boyfriend’s! His parents were away on holiday so we had the house to ourselves. We had an absolute blast and enjoyed it lots. Took a few pictures along the way too. I thought it’d be fun to share them with you, it’s not my regular type of post, but as this blog is about my personal life as well I didn’t think it would be very out of place here.

1

This was our bed for the past few days, we completely disassembled his bed, dumped it on his brother’s room (as he was away too for the week) and put his and his brothers mattresses on the floor together so we had this huge bed! I slept like a rose all week.

2

We stole his brothers TV and Xbox 360 cause Dries his TV is really tiny, you can see it in the back behind his couch if you look carefully.

3

The rest of the room.

5

The frame on  the wall was my present to Dries on his 20th birthday, it took me hours and hours of sweating but I still really like it. Every letter is a picture of us together.

6

Took some sneaky pictures of him while he was watching TV.

7

We played some Rummikub as well! It’s a game I’ve enjoyed ever since I was very little on holiday with my parents, a tradition I intend to pass on!

8

I won the first game. Look at his sad face, awww!

9

He won the second game though! Yay!

10

We also took our bicycles to Aarschot City and had a stroll around the charity shop. I bought some really lovely belts and a skirt! Also note the really funky 80′s shoes, I was doubting whether I should buy them, when I eventually decided I would, some Russian lady snatched them before my very eyes. Have to say it did make me a bit pissed! They weren’t very comfortable so whatever! I secretly hope they’ll give her nasty blisters ;) how naughty of me.

11

From left to right, €1, €0,50, €1,50, €1. In total, €4 for four belts. What a bargain! Apologies for the sad quality of this picture, I had to take these quickly as I’m coming down with a cold. The belts look a lot more attractive in real life.

12

A pencil skirt for €2,5, it doesn’t fit me quite yet but it soon will! It’s a European size 36, shouldn’t be too long before I can fit into one of those again. (I think I might customize it a little, remove the buttons and add sparkly golden ones, thoughts?)

13

We made our own meals each day, no junk food, all proper meals! We made stuffed zuccini, my home made burgers, a Greek salad with chicken, stir fry, and steak and chips! This was our first time ever of making home made Belgian fries. They were really delicious, we made ourselves very proud!

14

We also went to Antwerp on Saturday, I didn’t buy anything except for a copy of Vogue, I’m not buying clothes until I hit my target weight (the pencil skirt was an exception! €2,5!) but Dries did find a lot of really nice t-shirts at H&M. We decided to take some pictures of his new purchases, I put them together in this collage, albeit not the best photoshop job I could do… I’m coming down with a cold, been feeling a bit low, and not as patient as I normally am. Excuses, excuses.

15

I’m going to leave you with this one. It’s totally cheesy but when you’re in love, you don’t care!
