Born Pretty Store Review – Mood Polish

From left to right: #7, #14, #4 and #1.

I have a really fun review/swatch post today! These are four of the Born Pretty Store mood polishes. I’ve featured these a few times now, I even used one of them in a nail art mani! I thought it would be helpful to do a bit of a review on these, explain how they work and what I like and don’t like. There’s more shades available but these are the four I own. You can take a look at the BPS website to see the other shades.

I’m sure most people will have a concerned look on their face when they first see these in person. The polish inside the bottles doesn’t look even, it’s kinda patchy and looks like it hasn’t been mixed properly. They might look a bit funny but it all evens out once its on the nails! Nothing to worry about.

They also dry matte so you will need to topcoat them if you prefer a glossy finish. I used two coats for all of these swatches, you have to make sure to wait several minutes between each layer. They do not dry quickly so give them time, if you don’t take it slow they are prone to bubbling.

First I swatched them how they look naturally. In each second swatch picture I’ve dipped my index and middle finger in cold water, and my ring and pinky finger in hot water.

#7 – This one changes from blue to purple. The change in colour is pretty dramatic. It changes from full-on blue to full-on purple. Compared to other brands of mood polish these are definitely the best in terms of colour. The mood polishes I own from Claire’s change from blue to slightly darker blue for example. Which is not that exciting!

Cold vs. hot!  As you can see, two completely different shades! Pretty amazing right? I really love both of these colours.

#14 – This one changes from pink to grey. Again, two completely different colours! They are both really stunning shades and I love how they look together as well.Very cute!

Cold vs. hot. A plum/dusty grey when cold and a pastel coral/pink when hot.

#4 – This mood polish changes from white to pink, another pretty dramatic transformation. This is the one I used in my nail art manicure. I love using mood polishes for nail art, it really gives your design a whole new dimension.

Cold vs. hot. Pastel pink vs. pure white! You can already see it changing back to pink on the edge of my nails. These change colour very quickly, the second you hold your finger under a cold or hot tap you’ll see it change.

#1 – This one is very unique, it really surprised me when I tried it. It changes from almost clear to hot pink. One minute it looks like you don’t have any polish on at all, and the next you have super bright hot pink nails. When your hands are normal temperature you’ll see your free edge change to hot pink, giving you the effect of a french manicure.

Cold vs. hot. Looks so amazing right? This one is definitely my favourite! It just blew me away when I swatched it. Seriously stunning.

Overall these mood polishes are really amazing. They are a novelty item but they deliver. Kids will go mad for these and even adults are intrigued to hear what you have on your nails. When I wear mood polish I definitely get a lot more comments and questions about my nails than usual.

They are slightly pricey at $7.84. They are worth it since the effect is so amazing but I’ll be honest, I would expect a slightly better formula for that price range. I guess you can’t really compare these to normal polish though. The formula is slightly tricky but the effect makes up for it in my opinion. Fantastic post! I love that the free edge makes them show both colors at once!
