Ombre Hair

When I was a child I had blonde hair but it grew darker over the years. Ever since then I’ve had brown hair. I’ve dyed it a few times but I always just went for a slightly darker shade of brown. I’ve been thinking about changing it back to blonde a lot over the past few years. However I just never felt up to the maintenance that requires and the huge change. What if it wouldn’t suit me?

The past few months I’ve been eyeing up the ombre hair trend that’s hit the runways. It’s basically like balayage, creating a gradient from dark to light. A lot of the it-girls and bloggers have been getting ombre hair and pulling it off amazingly. There’s many great DIY posts from bloggers explaining how to do this at home. I don’t have the funds to get it done professionally, I’m also a bit of a control freak and don’t really trust anyone with my hair apart from myself.
A few weeks ago I decided to go for it! I used a highlighting kit by Schwarzkopf. I mistakenly used one for dark blonde to medium brown hair. I left it in for the maximum amount of time but it didn’t achieve the effect I was looking for. Last week I tried again with a bleach kit from Garnier called Nutrisse. Success!
I’m really happy with how it turned out. I would do it again in a heartbeat! I’m definitely not an expert but if you’d like to try it too I can give you a few tips.
- Do a strand test! Bleaching hair has a different effect from person to person, none of our hair is the same. Try the bleach on a small strand of your hair first, leave it in for 20 minutes and rinse off. This will give you a guideline as to what it will look like and how long you will need to leave it in for.
- Don’t be afraid! It might seem daunting but just be patient, try not to hurry things and think about every step you are going to take. Just go for it! If all else fails, you could always dye it back to brown.

Great! Looks amazing indeed, I would definatelly try it some time if I'd have the guts, but my current dye is still getting away. It's been on for months though, I'm kind of starting to suspect it's never fully going to disappear :' )

Aww thanks so much Caro ♥ Hasn't your dye grown out yet? I'm not sure if this would work on dyed hair but you could always try. I think this would honestly suit almost everyone! It's definitely a change from just having boring brown hair but not as extreme as perixode blonde.

I love it
And I love your hair <3
When mine will grow longer, I think I'll give a try to that look. But I dye my hair with henna, so I'll have to do a test to see if it won't turn green

Thank you Gwenn! I'm really glad you love it! I honestly really love it too, am so happy I just went for it! I'm not sure if bleaching works with dyed hair especially with henna. Best to do some research!

I already read some advices and it really depends on each person … some had no problem, some had their hair turned green and some had other problems like hair becoming too dry …
Well, I'll still wait a bit more, first I need to make a fresh henna (I don't dare to put it so close to my recently pierced ear), then I think I'll try to bleach a single strand of hair …
I don't want to go back to chemical dyes, and I also don't want to abandon henna, my real hair color is soooooo boring xD (light brown with absolutely no shine, argh)
