dbeautyshop review Pop.C Grey

Saturday, July 17th, 2010

I have another circle lens review! I was really excited about these, they’re bigger than the last ones and a different colour. They’re from the brand Pop.C in the colour light grey. They’re available at dbeautyshop.com at €31,92 and last up to a year, I’m guessing the size of them is why they are slightly more expensive than other types of circle lenses. Circle lenses are a trend from Asia, in particular Korea and Japan where anime or manga eyes are very desirable and having a different eyecolour a nice change from having dark brown eyes like everyone else.

4

Each purchase comes with a free lens case.

I really loved the design of these when I saw them online and I wasn’t disappointed when I received them, the Geo Nudy Blues were very pixelated, these look much better I think. I really like the thick black rim on the outside.

ba

In comparison! As you can see, they’re much bigger than my own iris, these lenses are particularly large at 15.5mm!

c

In close-up. You can see my natural colour behind the lenses as my pupil is small because of the flash, when lighting is less bright you can’t see any brown whatsoever.

2

They’re very comfortable to wear, I think they are more comfortable than the Geo Nudy lenses, despite these being so large. I can feel they’re there but only slightly. They don’t look very natural, I’ll be honest, they’re really dramatic and in person slightly scary even. My mum’s reaction to seeing them for the first time was “my daughter has turned into an alien”, I couldn’t stop laughing. I’m not sure I feel comfortable wearing them out though, as people might stop and stare or ask “what the hell is wrong with your eyes?” but I think they’re perfect to use in pictures. In pictures they look interesting and mesmerizing whereas in person they’re dramatic and a bit eerie. Overall I really like these, much better than the blue ones, they give you a youthful look and a doll-like appearance and they’re real good fun.

China Glaze – Vintage Vixen Fall 2010

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

I know most of us are not even remotely thinking about Fall in this heatwave we’re having, but as always, fashion is ahead of us. I have a huge photo heavy review for you about the new China Glaze Fall collection: Vintage Vixen. As the name reflects, it’s all about the bygone eras, in particular the forties where they danced to the swing during the war. This collection of twelve bottles is packed full of classic colours and deep sultry hues. It’s coming out next week so here’s a sneak preview!

vintagevixen

The formula on these is great as always, perfect opacity after two thin coats (one could do the trick but it’s better to layer it thin) and they remove quite easily too, despite having glitter! They go on really nicely though sometimes they get slightly tricky when you think you’ve removed the excess polish off your brush, a huge drop will come down and spill all over your nail, very annoying!

1-4names

1

If you look carefully you can see the blurry bottles behind my hand! :D

  • Hey Doll: A dark pink with silver shimmer
  • Bogie: Gorgeous dark plum colour with silvery shimmer
  • First Class Ticket: One of my favourites, a deep blueish purple
  • Midnight Mission: Greyish blue with silver shimmer

names

2

These colours scream Christmas holidays don’t they!

  • Emerald Fitzgerald: I love the name of this colour, it’s a beautiful shimmery teal
  • Jitterbug: A gorgeous silver chrome with micro glitter, I’ve been singing this song for days cause of this polish!
  • Riveter Rouge: Red with silver shimmer
  • Foxy: A coppery orange/red

3

  • Goin’ My Way?: A shimmery warm brown
  • Swing Baby: A glittery taupe with copper and silver shimmer
  • Ingrid: A brown of the greige family
  • Classic Camel: A light mustard brown colour, a very unique colour but not for me

Even though I usually go for the more brightly coloured these are really stunning, especially First Class Ticket, Emerald Fitzgerald and Jitterbug take to my fancy a lot, but this one has to be my favourite by far:

ingrid

I would never believe I’d say this but I seem to have been converted, I previously stated I wasn’t a big fan of the whole Greige trend, but this colour has blown me away. Ingrid isn’t the most excitable name, but this polish is such a dream and it looks great on my skin tone. I’ve been wearing my peach-coloured dress and this nail polish is so perfect next to it!

Lashes! Madame Madeline part II & AII Beauty

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Huge post about lashes! I promised it to you a while ago and finally it’s here. Took me blood, sweat and tears but I finally finished it. These are a few of my lashes, mostly the more natural looking ones, but I added one of the more dramatic ones as well. My apologies, not all of the pictures are 100% sharp but you will get the idea.

natural

These are my natural lashes without mascara. They’re quite short unfortunately so false lashes are a great alternative for me.

mascara

These are my lashes with my favourite mascara, the falsies volum’ express by Maybelinne. Makes a huge difference doesn’t it? I always curl my lashes with a lash curler which is a very important step. First you curl your lashes, grab them and squeeze several times, then apply your mascara.

andrea
mm

Andrea Modlash in 53, I received these from AII Beauty. I really like them, they look very natural and suit my eyes. Excuse my sloppy application, the inside corner of the lash band isn’t close enough to my lashes (happens to me a lot) but it’s fixed by applying eyeliner most of the time. The pictures really tend to magnify everything unfortunately. Also, in none of the pictures I’m wearing eyeshadow because this way you can see the lashes better!

andrea
mm

Andrea Accents 301 from AII Beauty. These are great lashes too and again not close enough to my lash line (sorry!) which shows up very clearly in close-up but not so much with a full make-up look on.. They just give a little added accent to the corner of your eyes, a little flutter of lashes as it were. I like wearing them a lot and they’re a lot easier to apply than a full strip of lashes and they look great.

revlon
mm

These and the next Revlon lashes I received from Madame Madeline. They’re very lightweight you can hardly feel them there. They look very natural and there are 2 pairs in one pack which is great. Thumbs up for these, I really like them.

revlon
mm

Revlon short natural. These are criss-cross lashes which I didn’t see until I received them, “that’s not going to look very natural” was my first thought but they do look nice! However the lash strip itself is a very hard band, you can really feel these sitting on your eyes which isn’t comfortable. Look great but I have trouble wearing them unfortunately.

andrea
lashes

Andrea Modlash 82 received from AII Beauty. I’m so happy with these pictures, especially the top one. These are quite dense and definitely for evening or a night out. I find wearing really dramatic lashes harder as I have hooded eyelids but these are very wearable especially teamed up with a dramatic eye make-up. I’m definitely a fan of these!

andreaperma
mm

These are the only individual lashes out of my entire list. Andrea Permalash flair combo black. I think they need specific glue for individual lashes though I applied them with my regular DUO lash adhesive which worked great as well. I applied seven knots of lashes, four of the shortest and 3 of the medium sized lashes. I still have to really practice with these because I don’t think I applied them that good. They look natural but I prefer strip lashes like the 53s for application. I didn’t cover them with mascara which you definitely should, it will attach your own lashes to the false ones and it will just make it look a lot better but I didn’t want to ruin these just for picture purpose. :)

Hope you enjoyed my entry on lashes, all besides the 82′s are available at Madame Madeline. If you order with them don’t forget to use my coupon code for a free gift and 8% off, FALSIES.

Seche – Secrets of the French Manicure

Monday, June 14th, 2010

As promised, the first of the AII Beauty product reviews is the French Manicure set by Seche. I know some of you may not know this brand but if you’re a nailpolish addict like me I’m sure it will ring a bell. Seche has a famous topcoat called the Seche Vite which is the best topcoat in the world! Many webshops in Belgium and the Netherlands stock this so keep your eyes open for it.

1

From left to right, Seche Vite top coat, Seche Porcelain, Seche Rose, Seche Clear base coat. The box also includes nail stickers to make the half moon for the French nail. I once did an entry on French Nails a long while ago and I mentioned there that I’m not a fan of nail stickers, they don’t work for me so I didn’t use them. I drew the whites freehand which isn’t that easy but they turned out great. It does take some practice.

2

3

In close-up

It doesn’t show up in this picture but the Seche Vite is super high gloss, I’ve never come across such a shiny nailpolish even a friend said “your nails look so shiny!” I’m a huge fan of shiny nail lacquer so there’s no doubt I’ll be using the Seche Vite with every nail look I do from now on. I’m a convert!

You can find the top and base coat at Enchantra for €6,95 each.

A few days ago I received a box of goodies from AII Beauty, or in full American Industries International Beauty. They are a distributor and manufacturer or a huge amount of amazing beauty and skincare products for both men and women. Sigma Complete Kit Review + Comparison

Tuesday, May 25th, 2010

I have a Sigma review and comparison for you today. I’ll be reviewing the complete brush kit and comparing it with the travel kit.

a
b

The complete kit has 12 brushes and costs $69 without the brush roll and $89 with the brush roll. I reviewed 8 of the 12 brushes already as they are in the travel kit, you can read my review on them here. They are pretty much the same except for the size. The handles are obviously bigger but some of the brushes themselves are slightly bigger as well.

2

A comparison, the SS150 face brush. Top is from the Nice in Pink travel set, bottom from the Complete kit. As you can see the handles are much bigger but the brush is slightly bigger as well. I find that they both work a treat, but the full sized brush feels so luxurious to hold, it’s heavy and great to work with, I prefer the big one better.

These are the four brushes from the complete kit you don’t get in the travel kit reviewed one by one:

ss252

ss252 – Large Shader Brush

This is a huge flat brush and it’s used for packing in lots of colour on your lid. As the tip of the brush is very fine it’s also for precise application. I really like this brush but I wish it was slightly smaller, it’s too big for my small lids to use as an eye brush. I think for me personally it would be more suited to us as a concealer brush which this brush is great for as well.

ss275

ss257 – Medium Angled Shading Brush

As you can see this is an angled brush. It’s used for applying highlighter under the eyebrows and for precise application in the crease. I used it for the latter and it works really great. It’s also very soft. I’m not sure I would use this very often, that’s my only concern.

ss209

ss209 – Eyeliner Brush

This is an eyeliner brush, for applying liquid eyeliner. When I  first saw this I thought this was a lipliner, I tried using it as a lipliner and that works great as well. You could definitely use it for both I reckon.

ss266

ss266 – Small Angle Brush

You can use this brush for eyeliner as well but I prefer using it for filling out my eyebrows, I have an eyebrow pencil from Zoeva but it’s way too hard and not precise enough. This is absolutely perfect! I love it!

1

Conclusion: I would definitely go for the Complete Kit, it’s worth the extra money. If it’s a bit out of your price range I would still go for the complete kit but without the brush roll, it’s fun to have but you don’t necessarily need it, it’s quite big and I don’t think I’d take it with me when travelling. The complete kit is really high-end, it’s the same quality as the travel kit but it does feel even more luxurious and professional cause of the large handles. If you treat your brushes well they will last for years and years so I think these are a great investment if you want superb quality for a decent price.

d’beauty circle lenses

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

Some of you may have seen the pictures on my facebook or on twitter, since Friday I am the proud owner of a pair of circle lenses! Thanks to the website dbeautyshop.com who has an amazing range of circle lenses.

Circle lenses are very big in Asia, where all the girls have the same eye colour, a pair of bright coloured circle lenses enables them to stand out from the crowd. A lot of celebrities wear them as well which makes them even more popular to Asian girls. Here in Europe we get the most amazing variety in colours so it’s less well-known though it’s starting to rise. I have always been hugely fascinated with coloured lenses, and lenses in general. I’m very lucky I have perfect eyesight so I don’t need glasses or lenses but I always wanted to try lenses and change my boring brown eyes to something brighter.

I got to try the Geo Nudy Blue circle lenses, I got 0.00 power since I don’t need prescription but you can get them with power as well! They cost €23,92 and they last for one year.

1
2

I had no issues putting them in the first time, I wasn’t scared to put them in my eyes, I just popped them both in in under 10 minutes, it does take some practice but once you get the hang of it it’s quite easy. They feel comfortable when wearing, I can feel that they’re there the first few minutes but after that I don’t notice I’m wearing them.

3

The top image is the way my eyes look natural, the middle is with natural light and the bottom with flash photography. I’m not wearing a lot of make-up on the bottom two images since that’s a bit tricky at first with lenses I wanted to be careful not to get any dirt into my eyes. :)

Be warned: scary macro images coming up, not for the feint hearted!

4
5

Looks a bit scary doesn’t it?

6

This is a macro image Maarten took of my eyes two years ago, yesterday he took the same image but with the circle lenses.

7

My eyelid is a bit droopy cause I’m squinting as the sun was shining in my eyes, not the mention the bright ring flash blinding me :D

8

Conclusion: I think they are great fun, I absolutely love them and they’re great for pictures. They don’t look natural, not in photographs and not in person as they are a lot bigger than your own iris, but it doesn’t bother me. I actually quite like that they are a bit scary, cartoonish and doll like. I really like the way they make my eyes look and I’d probably even wear them out.

website: www.dbeautyshop.com this website is very reliable and they provided a great customer service.

Many thanks to Maarten for taking the amazing macro images!

Sigma Brush Review – Nice in pink

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

1

A few days ago I received the The Travel Brush Kit from the famous Sigma. I know most (or some) of you don’t really follow the make-up vloggers on Youtube, but I can say that right about everyone that means something on youtube has spoken about these brushes. They have been compared to MAC brushes endlessly (which are much more expensive) and some say they are better than MAC, others say they aren’t. I believe it is unfair to compare them as they are from a different price range, let’s just say that being compared to MAC is a compliment, they are without a doubt of a professional quality, but for a price most of us can afford and are willing to spend on make-up.

I can honestly say that the right brushes are key to creating a stunning make-up look, I have given some make-up advice to several of my friends face-to-face over the past few months, it always started off by saying “get proper brushes!” It is so important I can’t stress enough. However, you don’t have to spend an average of €15 per brush if you want decent quality, I don’t think all of us are willing to spend that much, I for one am not, even though I am really into make-up.

Sigma offers several brush kits, ranging from €31 for an Eye (seven brushes) or Face kit (five brushes) to €120 for the Premium set (fifteen brushes + brush roll).

2

I will be reviewing the Travel Set in Pink (also available in black) which costs €39 or $49. The kit comes with seven brushes and a complimentary foundation brush which makes it eight in total. It is a travel kit and comes with a great brush roll to keep your brushes in, with a zipper for some smaller items (I keep the complimentary brush in there, perfect!), the brushes are smaller in size, I was a bit scared this would bug me but it doesn’t at all, they fit very nicely into your hands and applying make-up with them is very comfortable despite of the size. I did read on several reviews that they smell a bit at first, some described it as “a rancid stench”, which is totally exaggerated, they did have a mildly unpleasant smell but I washed them before using and after that the smell was fine.

The Face Brushes:

ss150
SS150 – Powder Brush
This brush is sooooo incredibly soft! I thought my Zoeva brushes were the softest in the world but these are even softer! Feels wonderful to apply powder with on the face.

ss187
SS187 – Duo Fibre Brush
I was most looking forward to trying this one, it’s a stippler brush. It can be used for several things, for regular powders like blushes, highlighters, bronzers and pressed, loose or mineral powders. But you can also use it for liquid foundation, it’s perfect for creating an “airbrushed” finish.

ss168
SS168 – Angled Brush
This is an angled brush you can use for contouring or blush. I like my zoeva angled brush better I have to say. It’s really soft but for me it’s not springy enough. A nice brush but not my favourite.

ss190
SS190 – Foundation Brush
This is the complimentary foundation brush, it is AMAZING I really love it. The quality of this one is superb and it makes applying foundation a dream, I had a Zoeva foundation one already which I thought was good but this one is miles better.

ss194
SS194 – Concealer Brush
This is the same story as with the foundation brush, it’s the same quality, great for applying concealer.

The Eye Brushes:

ss239
SS239 – Eye Shading Brush
This is a really great brush, great for applying eyeshadow but I love really using it for blending as well as applying.

ss224
SS224 – Tapered Blending Brush
This is a blending brush, it’s nice cause it’s really big but I wish it had been slightly more springy, I feel like I’m just stroking and sweeping over my crease and eyelid instead of really blending it in. Other than that it’s really soft and I think I will likely use it most for applying highlighter under my eyebrow. I honestly have spoken too soon, I tried this brush several times and it is an absolute dream to blend eyeshadow with. It’s become my favourite!

ss219
SS219 – Pencil Brush
This is a great little brush, to me it’s absolutely perfect for applying dark colours in the crease, sometimes I do a look and it just needs a tiny bit more black in the crease and in the outer corner, this is great for finishing off your look, dotting the I!

All in all a great brush set, you really get your money’s worth, it’s just €4,80 per brush if you count the complimentary one, which is a great price. These brushes are a great alternative for the pricey ones, if you are just getting into make-up or if you want to invest in some nice brushes that don’t cost a fortune… Meet Sigma!

China Glaze

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

Some of you may have heard of the following nail polish brand, China Glaze. If not then this is a great introduction, I have seen it mentioned on so many blogs and vlogs, heard only great things about it and really wanted to try it out myself.

I got three polishes in the mail on Monday, a huge box arrived at my house.

1

The huge box was to protect the polishes in the mail, looks funny doesn’t it? Such a big box for such a small package. Everything arrived in perfect order though so all went well.

Photobucket

These were the three polishes I got:

1. “Light As Air” from the Up and Away Collection
2. “Sun Worshiper” from the Poolside Collection
3. “Stroll” from the Retro Diva Collection

1

1. Light As Air: An amazing pastel lavender colour, two coats and it looked flawless and stunning. It’s a very fresh and young colour, I really love it! It looks a bit sloppy in this picture, I got over-excited, so my bad! In the same collection there is an amazing minty green pastel as well called Re-Fresh Mint, I really want to get my hands on that one!

I do have to note this isn’t a colour anyone could pull off, I have a yellow undertone skin and it worked on me, when my mum who has a red undertone tried this colour it didn’t look as good on her. Maybe it’s the age gap, I do think this is a really young and fresh colour, it just didn’t look right on my mum, has it got anything to do with skintone I’m not sure, could be.

2

2. Sun Worshiper: This one is a bright fluo orange, not just any old fluo orange, they really have taken fluo to the next level. I have never seen any polish to be this bright, it pops in shadow even more so than in bright lighting. Nor have I ever come across a fluo polish with this amazing coverage, two to three coats does the job, sounds a lot but it totally isn’t for a colour like this. I bought a fluo green once, looked as though I had coloured in my nails with yellow marker, no coverage whatsoever. This however is TO DIE FOR! The other colours in the Poolside Collection are just as amazing. I really can’t do this polish justice, taking a picture which even remotely resembles the colour in real life is very hard, I had seen reviews on this colour and this collection but it looks so much more bright and stunning in real life. Will look even better once I get a nice tan. The entire collection makes me long for summer even more, so sad it’s mid-May and it’s raining outside and terribly cold. This polish brightens up my day though. Thank you China Glaze!

This colour does dry matte, could be a plus for some people though it was a con for me, not a big fan of matte polishes myself I finished this off with a shiny topcoat and it looked much, much better! Also, look what happened when I went under our sun tanning bed:

1

How amazing is that! It just lights up!

3

3. Stroll: This is an amazing deep magenta with metallic golden microglitter. It looks very different in real life, I was having a hard time making a picture that does this polish justice, this one resembles the colours best though it washes out the glitter entirely. it looks different in every light setting, in the sun, in artificial light, it never fails to surprise you. Application is great, it goes on very nicely.

Glitterpolish is usually quite hard to remove, this was fine, though it did leave some glitters after removing.

I have to say this was the first time I ever used China Glaze and they just don’t compare to drugstore brands, they are so amazing, the quality and coverage is superb. Their formula includes hardeners which strengthen your nails, a huge plus for me as I often have to cut my nails short cause they tend to rip and tear. The polish dries really fast, and they have the most amazing colours in their range, I just can’t praise them enough. They’re also very affordable, unfortunately getting your hands on them in Belgium and the Netherlands isn’t the easiest thing in the world, you can get them at Enchantra, though prices are way more expensive than in the US, still worth every penny I have to say. I hope shops in our country will stock this product soon because it truly is amazing.

Their upcoming collection for fall 2010 looks stunning as well, called Vintage Vixen and is packed full of sparkly colours, or as China Glaze calls them: multi-faceted jewel tones. Will be available from July 2010!

The Brush Guard – Review

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

1

Yesterday I received a package in the mail, containing a great product called The Brush Guard! What it does is protect your brushes when travelling, aids you when drying your brushes and makes your brushes easier to grip when they become slippery. Sounds great right?

I had read and heard so many good things about this, I instantly felt like this was a product for me, I just had to get it! To me my brushes are sacred and when I’m travelling, going to my boyfriends or when on holiday, I’m always scared my brushes will get dented, squashed or damaged in my bag. Now I don’t have to worry any more cause this product will keep my brushes safe and protected.

They sell this Variety Pack at their website for just $5,50 (€4,30) and shipping to Europe is $3,00 (€2,30) so it isn’t that expensive, worth every penny cause buying new brushes if they get damaged while travelling will be a lot pricier, not to mention sad!

brushguards

A Variety Pack contains these six brush guards:
1 Shadow or Liner (extra small)
2 Blush or Shadow (small)
2 Foundation or powder (medium)
1 Powder or Kabuki (large)

2

Here’s what they look like on your brushes.

brushguard

The product itself is a breathable sheet of (I think) nylon, it is soft yet very sturdy as it’s woven. (The nailpolish I’m wearing in this picture is Sun Worshipper by China Glaze, review on that coming soon so keep your eyes open for it!)

washingthem

Another amazing feature of the brush guards is that they are an amazing aid in cleaning and specifically drying your brushes. A few days ago I was cleaning out my brushes, something you really have to do regularly as they gather so much product after a while, not to mention dirt and bacteria! The easiest way of cleaning them is just using water and baby shampoo, never turn them upside down while washing cause water and soap are a nightmare for the glue that holds your brush and bristles together. Normally I dry them lying flat on a towel, but even then water can still find its way to the glue and it will ruin your brush. Drying them upside down would be the best way, without a doubt. Impossible I thought, now I can! Just slip the brush guard over your brush, and place them in a glass, this way they can dry upside down over night and gravity will pull all the moisture down and out.

I think this is a brilliant invention and really recommend you to invest in it if you value your brushes. It is a lifesaver!
