It’s Sunday and by now you should know what that means… 31DC round-up time! I am really enjoying these posts way too much. I’ll even miss the 31DC when it’s over.. It’s been a ton of work but a ton of fun too. I’ll have one more round-up next Sunday of the final four designs. But let’s take a look at what I created for this week of “inspired by” themes.
Day 21 – Inspired by… A Colour: First up is inspired by a colour, I was thinking to myself, what is my favourite nail polish colour.. that’s easy! Eerie of course! piCture pOlish granted me the opportunity to create my dream shade and it absolutely is. I wanted to add some subtle but fun nail art that still allowed piCture pOlish Eerie to be the star of the show.
So I started with piCture pOlish Eerie as my base on all nails. Then I stamped using Polish My Life Muscat Martini and used the Japanese Asa-No-Ha print from Bundle Monster BMXL-155 plate on my middle and ring finger. I finished the look with some pretty gold nail decoration from Born Pretty Store on my pointer and pinkie.
Day 22 – Inspired by… A Song: I was browsing through my most played list on my iPod and saw Franz Ferdinand – Evil Eye. An absolutely hilarious and awesome song (beware the video is kind of bizarre, but I love it haha). While the video has lots of graphic images I could use for inspiration I wanted to use a more wearable approach. I love Evil Eye artwork so when I was googling for inspiration I came across this manicure by Naomi Yusada and decided to recreate it because how could I not?!
I started with Lacquer Lust Blue Corn Moon as my base on my pointer and ring finger and Polish My Life Birthday Suit as my base on my middle and pinkie. Then I painted on the evil eye design using ORLY Instant Artist stripers in Jet Black and Crisp White.
Day 23 – Inspired by… A Movie: Next up is inspired by a movie! My requirement for this mani was to make it look like an actual nail design rather than a literal depiction of what I was trying to convey. I went sort of literal but it actually works quite nicely as a nail design I think! I was of course inspired by Leeloo’s outfit in The Fifth Element. I think it’s quite iconic, and one of my favourite sci-fi movies of all time.
I used Color Club Barely There as my base coat (to hide my horrible staining, haha!) and then I freehanded the white lines using ORLY Pointe Blanche which is technically a polish used for French manis but that made it perfect for this design as the brush inside it is very narrow and the polish itself fairly opaque.
Day 24 – Inspired By… A Book:Tthere was only ever going to be one choice for this prompt and that’s HARRY POTTER! Duh! I cleverly made use of my Hehe Harry Potter plates to depict a snake to represent Slytherin house, the Hogwarts crest, a gorgeous Deathly Hallows print and the Golden Snitch.
I started with Cirque Colors Memento Mori as my base for all four nails then I stamped using Hehe Plates 025, 030, 031 and 036. The polishes I used are B. Loves Plates B. A Silver King, China Glaze Little Drummer Boy, A England Gloriana, Hit The Bottle To Have And To Gold, Spell Polish Clodhopper and a mix of Hit The Bottle To Have And To Gold and I Wish I Was A Mermaid for the snake.
Day 25 – Inspired by… Fashion: For this prompt I went straight to Pinterest and started searching for Runway looks from 2015. I came across this stunning dress by Georges Hobeika Couture for Fall 2015. I used the top half of the dress as inspiration for my mani. The gold I used turned out a bit more silver-looking but oh well. I still like it!
I started with a sponge gradient using China Glaze Sea Spray, Cirque Colors NYFW and A England Queen Of Scots. Then I stamped over it using Barry M Gold Foil effects and an image from the Born Pretty Store BLP016 plate.
Day 26 – Inspired by… A Pattern: For my inspired by a pattern nails I made a few different attempts, each more unsuccessful then the next. Then I figured, let’s head to Lindsey’s blog, Wondrously Polished, she always does the best pattern nails. I chose these incredible gradient geometric nails from last year. They really blew me away!
I started with a sponge gradient (I’ve been doing so many sponge gradients for the 31DC, I’m surprising myself how good I’m getting at them!) using Essie The More The Merrier, China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint and Essie Naughty Nautical. Then I freehanded the white geometric print using ORLY Instant Artist in Crisp White.
Day 27 – Inspired by… Art: For my inspired by art nail design I chose this watercolour artwork by PrismaticArt on Etsy for inspiration. I decided to recreate it using… watercolour paint! I’m not sure if it was completely successful. I think watered down acrylic paints would have worked much better but oh well.
I started with Cirque Colors Carpe Diem as my base, then used watercolour paints to create the effect. Finished with two coats of Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat.
I hope you enjoyed this fourth week of 31DC manis! Please let me know what your favourites are!
